Fort Rucker, Alabama, 1968
I visited Fort Rucker twice during my time in the Army.
The first visit was after leave in 1967, and the second was after ATC school in 1968.
During the 1968 tour, I was assigned to the 72nd Air Traffic Control Company, 53rd Aviation Battalion, and was there to get some additional training in Army Air Traffic Control procedures.
The Army wanted to be sure I was experienced and capable of working in a fixed and rotor wing aircraft environment.
I spent most of my time at Hanchey and Cairns Army Air Field (OZR), and Hopper stage field towers.
I also got my Army radar rating at Rocky Head on the old TPN-8 radar precision approach control system.
Here is a collection of photos taken with the same camera I used in Vietnam.
